The Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA) continues to intensify its crackdown on illicit trade by conducting specialized Product Knowledge Training sessions for its enforcement officers. This ongoing initiative is designed to refine the technical expertise of the frontline team, ensuring they remain equipped to handle the increasingly complex tactics used by counterfeiters. By bridging the gap between industry intelligence and field operations, the Authority is maintaining a proactive stance in its long-term mission to sanitize the Kenyan market.
Executive Director Dr. Robi M. King’a, PhD, noted that these sessions are a key component of the ACA’s broader strategy of sustained collaboration with the private sector. By working closely with industry leaders such as Spoor & Fisher, SC Johnson, Novartis, and Haleon, the Authority ensures that its officers possess the brand-specific knowledge necessary to accurately authenticate goods.
This partnership-led approach allows for a more precise response to the evolving methods of production and distribution that threaten legitimate trade.
The training focused on practical, hands-on identification of high-risk items across multiple sectors, moving beyond basic detection to analyze the sophisticated logistics and distribution networks used by illicit traders. These sessions also provided an opportunity to review the wider impact of counterfeit trade on public health and national economic stability, reinforcing the urgency of a coordinated, multi-sectoral response.
As part of its commitment to public safety, the ACA continues to emphasize the importance of consumer vigilance. Market users are encouraged to stay alert for packaging "red flags," including unusual fonts, spelling errors, poor print quality, and irregular coloring. By consistently sharpening the skills of its officers and fostering deep-rooted partnerships with stakeholders, the ACA remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting the integrity of local brands and ensuring a fair commercial environment across the country.
