Anti-Counterfeit Authority Hosts Nairobi Small Business Traders' Leaders in a Move Aimed at Strengthening Collaboration Mechanism

The Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA) hosted Nairobi's small business traders' leaders at the Meridian Hotel in an event aimed at strengthening consultation mechanisms and increasing awareness of electronic Recordation declaration systems for imported goods.
The event, which was opened by Dr. Robi Mbugua Njoroge, Executive Director of the ACA, brought together key leaders from Nairobi traders' association and other stakeholders from the government agencies. Other government agencies present included the Kenya Bureau of Standards, The Kenya Revenue Authority, the Kenya Copyright board and Kenya Police among others.
Dr. Njoroge emphasized the ACA's commitment to supporting small businesses in the fight against counterfeiting. He stressed the importance of collaboration between the ACA and small traders, urging them to report any suspected counterfeit goods to the authority.
The chairman of the Nairobi small traders' association Mr. Peter Kariuki welcomed the government gesture for collaboration especially in creating awareness on new legal frameworks involved in importation of goods into the country. He underscoring the role of education and awareness in protecting consumers and businesses alike and emphasized the need for recordation of imports at the source country a crucial step in ensuring the authenticity of goods in the market.
The Anti-Counterfeit Authority will continue to collaborate with other government agencies under the multi-agency framework to promote legitimate trade and protect society against harmful counterfeit products through creation of public awareness, enforcement and sharing information to stop illicit trade. #Ends.

About ACA Kenya
The Anti-Counterfeit Authority was established under the Anti-Counterfeit Act 2008 as a State Corporation with the mandates to enlighten and inform the public on matters relating to counterfeiting, combat counterfeiting, trade and other dealings in counterfeit goods, devise and promote training programs to combat counterfeiting and co-ordinate with national, regional or international organizations involved in combating counterfeiting.
It is a state corporation currently within the Ministry of Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry. The Act was passed by Kenya’s Parliament in 2008, it came into force on 1st July 2009 with the principal aim of prohibiting trade in counterfeit goods. The Authority came into operation in June 2010.
